Water-Jet Weaving Industry Usher into Big Change in 2017-2018

In 2017, Wujiang District eliminated 44,408 sets of water-jet looms, Xiuzhou District of Jiaxing City eliminated 30,728 sets of water-jet looms, and Xialv Town of Keqiao District eliminated 40% of its water-jet looms. This year, the rectification of water-jet loom in various regions is still in full swing.
Nowadays, most elimination of water-jet loom in Jiaxing City has been basically completed. And the next rectification target may be aimed at Wujiang District, Keqiao District, and so forth.
Take the Wujiang District as an example. In 2017, the Wujiang Distrinct carried out the “Two-Six-Three” special action, which is designed to optimize and improve environmental situation. “Two” refers to “two reductions”, that is, reducing total coal consumption and backward capacity to ease the burden on ecological environment from the beginning. “Six” refers to the “six treatment measures”, namely, solving the most serious problems in current ecological civilization construction, including water governance of Taihu Lake, dealing with household wastes, eliminating the key environmental hazards, etc. And “Three” refers to “three promotions”, that is, improving the level of ecological protection, the level of regulation for environmental economic policy, and the level of environmental supervision and law enforcement, to lay solid foundation for the construction of ecological civilization. Cai Jianzhong, director of Environmental Protection Bureau in Wujiang District, said that in 2017, 44,408 sets of low-end and illegal water-jet looms were eliminated, accounting for 108.7% of the annual task. And Wujiang District will strive to reduce the total number of water-jet looms from 340,000 sets to 238,000 sets in three years (2017-2019), ensuring a 30% reduction in total volume.

Future Development of Textile Enterprises in Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province
It is difficult for textile enterprises of Wujiang District to expand the capacity of water-jet loom because of expensive land costs and factory rent. On the one hand, traditional industrial clusters such as Wujiang District and Xiuzhou District are vigorously eliminating water-jet loom, and the number of water-jet loom has been drastically reduced. On the other hand, conventional products like polyester taffeta and polyester pongee are in short supply, which requires more capacity. Therefore, industrial transformation and upgrading is imperative.
Since last year, a large number of water-jet looms in Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province have been transferred to inland areas, including Anhui Province, Hubei Province, Hunan Province, and Jiangxi Province. Thanks to the preferential policies of the local government of inland areas, the number of water-jet looms has multiplied.

Future Development Opportunities for Water-jet Looms
The use of water-jet loom is always inseparable from the problem of sewage discharge. Thus, it is understandable that the filament weaving industry clusters such as Wujiang, Jiaxing and Changxing to eliminate backward water-jet looms because of strict environmental requirements. However, the transformation of textile raw materials from natural fibers such as cotton, hemp, wool and silk to chemical fibers is the general trend at home and abroad.
The long-term growing demand for fiber and the huge market for synthetic fabrics have determined that there is a market for water-jet looms because they are the most suitable options for weaving chemical fiber filament fabrics. Although the development of water-jet looms have been restricted by the severe environmental requirements in the eastern developed areas and the requirements to improve the added value of products, the filament weaving industry can be transferred to the water-rich areas, such as China’s central and western regions. Pay attention to sewage treatment and achieve zero discharge. Water-jet looms will become the development direction of the future filament weaving industry.
Water-jet looms need to consume the water resources. The reuse of sewage can alleviate the pressure of water consumption to some extent, but it cannot thoroughly solve the problem of using limited water resources. Therefore, enterprises should increase research and development efforts on water saving. Once the water saving and sewage disposal problems have been solved, the water-jet looms have broad prospect.
Some domestic industrial clusters have proposed that a large number of water-jet looms need to be eliminated, which is to eliminate the backward looms. In the future, high-end water-jet loom is an inevitable trend for reducing labor, improving production and efficiency, improving quality, and saving water resources.
