Xiaoshan to Close Pollution Enterprises

Xiaoshan District is an important industrial area of Hangzhou City. In 2014, this district generated a total output value of CNY 172.83 billion, accounting for 18.8% of the city’s total and it contributed to 36.7% of the city’s total gross industrial output value of enterprises above designated size.

However, according to related statistics, the district’s waste water discharge, COD and ammonia-nitrogen emissions accounted for respectively 31.9%, 24.9% and 26.3% of the city’s total in 2014; and the emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and smoke dust accounted for 37.7%, 24.9% and 26.3% of the city’s total.

The textile industry, especially the dyeing & finishing sector generate more pollutants, mainly waste water, waste gas and solid wastes, than other industries. For example, the COD emissions of textile industry made up 92.57% of the district’s total, in which, the dyeing & finishing sector made up 87.81% of the total.

During 2016-2020, Xiaoshan will undertake ten major projects in five categories for pollution prevention. The total budget will be CNY 3.67 billion, including CNY 1.97 billion from the government. Six projects are to be completed at the end of 2016, two before the end of 2017, one before the end of 2019 and one before the end of 2020.

In the coming five years, Xiaoshan will spend CNY 520 million on setting up two industrial pollution prevention and treatment facilities, including the new storing and disposal facility for dangerous solid wastes and the expansion and improvement project of Xiaoshan Qianjiang waste water disposal facility for increasing the daily disposal capacity to 340,000 tons.
